Advanced Placement (AP) Program at RISE

RISE is proud to offer College Board-approved Advanced Placement (AP) courses, providing our students with the opportunity to challenge themselves academically while earning both high school and college credits.

Starting in 8th grade, students can enroll in AP classes, allowing them to get ahead in their academic journey, strengthen their college applications, and develop essential skills for success in higher education. Our AP program is designed to provide rigorous college-preparatory coursework, equipping students with the knowledge, discipline, and critical thinking abilities needed to excel.

At RISE, students benefit from the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) while also having the option to prepare for AP exams to earn college credit early.

Dual Credit Opportunities – Earn high school and college credits simultaneously

Competitive Resumes – Stand out in college applications with advanced coursework

College Readiness – AP courses cover advanced topics and require critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Wide Subject Range: Courses are offered in subjects like Science, Computer Science, History, English, and World Languages.

The course pathway for Grades 6–8 is finalized for 2025–2026. Grades 9–10 may see minor adjustments based on student interest in science and electives. AP course offerings will vary yearly to align with student needs. Changes will primarily affect course sequencing in history and science, as well as available AP electives, such as AP Computer Science, which may be introduced in 9th or 10th grade based on demand.

AP FAQs

Find answers to common questions about our AP courses at RISE

Will students be able to take AP exams while enrolled in the IB MYP program?

Yes. RISE offers a structured pathway for students who wish to take AP exams. For example, an 8th-grade Environmental Science course will cover AP content throughout the week, with a dedicated period for either IB MYP Community Project work or AP test prep, ensuring students meet both IB and AP expectations.

How does RISE plan to offer AP courses in addition to the IB MYP curriculum?

RISE aligns its advanced courses with both IB MYP and AP standards. Our project-based courses cover AP-required content while maintaining IB’s conceptual learning approach. Students who choose the AP test option receive structured test prep while engaging in IB MYP inquiry-based learning. What if my student does not want to take an AP course?

Students have the flexibility to choose whether they want to take a course with an AP test option or follow it as an IB MYP course. If a student does not wish to take the AP test, they will simply complete the course as part of the IB MYP program without the test requirement.
