Zakat Policy
Introduction
This policy outlines the principles and procedures governing the collection, management, and distribution of zakat funds. The policy ensures compliance with Islamic guidelines, transparency, and accountability in the handling of zakat contributions.
Fiqh Compliance
The usage of zakat funds adheres strictly to the rulings provided by our designated Scholars. These guidelines ensure that all disbursements align with Islamic jurisprudence.
RISE limits the usage of zakat in accordance to the Quranic guidelines (9:60). RISE relies on the normative position of the scholarly tradition in Islam. Zakat is NOT used for asset acquisition, construction, maintenance of facilities, organizational expenses, or salaries.
Collection of Zakat Funds
Zakat is collected from donors who entrust the organization with the responsibility of distributing their contributions in accordance with Islamic principles.
The primary beneficiaries of the zakat funds are seminary students in financial need.
A portion of the zakat may also be allocated to trusted Muslim relief organizations that fulfill the criteria of eligible zakat recipients.
All donations specified as zakat are separately accounted for and managed with full transparency.
Separation of Funds
Zakat funds are strictly separated from all other organizational funds, including operational budgets, payroll, utilities, and administrative expenses.
100% of zakat funds are used exclusively for their designated purpose and are never commingled with non-zakat funds.
A dedicated zakat fund account is maintained to ensure compliance with financial integrity and Islamic guidelines.
Disbursement of Zakat Funds
The primary disbursement of zakat is directed toward seminary students in financial need.
The eligibility of students is verified through an internal vetting process managed by the Enrollment and Student Affairs department.
The organization disburses approximately $50,000 per month to support these students.
Any remaining zakat funds may be allocated to trusted Muslim relief organizations that assist eligible zakat recipients.
All zakat disbursements are documented and reported to ensure accountability and proper usage.
Governance and Oversight
A dedicated zakat committee or oversight body is responsible for ensuring the appropriate collection, management, and disbursement of funds in accordance with the approved fiqh guidelines.
Regular audits and financial reviews are conducted to maintain transparency and compliance.
Donors may request reports or updates on the utilization of their zakat contributions.
This policy is subject to periodic review and updates based on guidance from our scholars and organizational leadership.
